Be spontaneous

“Now that they are teenagers, if they ring during the afternoon because they want to go windsurfing I’ll often stop what I’m doing, if possible, and take the opportunity of going with them.” – Peter Le Soeuf, professor of paediatrics.

  • You may not be able to do so on a regular basis, but taking a spontaneous afternoon off to have fun with your children will be good for you all.
  • Those moments may just become some of your very favourite memories.

Tips:

Respect your children’s carers and the role they play when the children are not with you

Be aware of the pressures your children’s carer (be it partner, ex-partner or otherwise) is under in caring for the children and arrange assistance where possible.

Don’t postpone being a better dad

You don’t have forever. Time with your kids is very special, so ensure you start from the first day they are born and go on a journey of becoming a good dad to them. Listen in to an inspiring story of a stepfather to his children.
