Build up kids’ confidence by encouraging self-reliance

Teach children to do things for themselves and not to just rely on you. This can take time, practice and patience – make allowance for their age and abilities.

  • Avoid sarcasm – it can destroy confidence
  • Don’t overuse praise – encouragement works better (kids need coaches, not fans)

Plan ahead

If you work away from home or travel a lot, here's a tip: a little planning can help make your spare time while away from your children more valuable.

Committed dads benefit personally

Seeing your children grow up to be your friends is immensely rewarding.
