Camp out overnight in the backyard

Camping out overnight in the backyard is a good way to introduce your kids to camping in a safe environment. Set up the tent, cook a barbecue dinner and then spend time telling stories, playing games and just talking. Do some stargazing if possible, and just listen to the sounds of the night. You can do this as a dad date with one child, with the whole family, or let mum have the house to herself and camp out with all the kids.

Tips:

Be involved in your children’s lives outside of school

Create opportunities to spend time with your children after school.

Tips:

Impacts when fathers reunite with children

Be aware that your children have coping strategies in place while you are away from them – don’t be too hasty in making judgements when you see your children again.
