Consistent family routine

Kids thrive on having a steady routine – it provides security and comfort. So establish a set routine for your children that applies whether they are with you or with your partner or ex-partner.

For example, you might make it a rule that any homework must always be completed after school before any technology is switched on; and/or that bedtime is always at 8 p.m. (say).

Tips:

Get to know your children through better listening

Take an interest in what your children are interested in. Ask questions and respond to their answers to show that you are listening.

Activities:

Five animated movies to watch with your kids

Watch a movie with your kids and then spend some time discussing the father/child relationships portrayed.
