Consistent family routine

Kids thrive on having a steady routine – it provides security and comfort. So establish a set routine for your children that applies whether they are with you or with your partner or ex-partner.

For example, you might make it a rule that any homework must always be completed after school before any technology is switched on; and/or that bedtime is always at 8 p.m. (say).

Take each of your kids out regularly for ‘dad dates’

‘Dad dates’ (no other adults, no other kids) don’t have to be elaborate or expensive, but what they do need to be is time spent together.

Keep your promises

Don't make promises you can't keep. Only say you will be there if you really can be.
