Give freedom to make mistakes

“My advice to dads is to not be judgemental with their children but give them some freedom.” – Susie Annus, wife of Kim Beazley, former Deputy Prime Minister of Australia.

  • Letting go can be hard, but it’s only when children make mistakes that they can begin to learn from them.
  • The amount of freedom that you give to each of your children depends upon the personality of each child.
  • When you allow your child to fall, you teach them how to pick themselves back up again. This skill will be invaluable to them in their life.

Activities:

Draw each other’s portrait

Draw a picture of your child, and ask them to do the same of you. Colour the pictures and then display them to the family.

Tips:

Help dad when he is away

Ask your children to help you by doing a task while you are away, or when they are not with you.
