Let them live their own lives

“My approach to the children has been to encourage them and give them every opportunity but to never push them and not to seek any pride for myself in any of their performances.” – Ian Brayshaw, sports journalist.

  • Encourage your children to have their own lives. Don’t live your life through them.
  • It’s good for your child to complete a commitment once they’ve begun. But also respect their choice when they say they are ready to be done.
  • Support your child in their choice of activities. Even when it’s not what you would choose for them.

Tips:

Help your child learn how to win and lose well

Whether in team or individual sports, or in other competitive arenas, children (and adults!) need to learn how to win or lose well. How you as a father or father figure behave will help guide your child’s response.

Activities:

Hide and seek

Who says hide and seek is boring? You can play it however way you want! The key is... be creative!!
