Photo documentary

If you work away from home, travel a lot, or don’t see your kids every day due to access limitations, here’s an activity to try:

Use a digital camera (even the one on your mobile phone) to create a photo documentary of your day. Take photos from the moment you get up, through meals, work, recreation time, etc, right up till you go to bed again. Upload the pictures to a website such as Flickr so that your children can access them and get a real sense of what you are doing all day.

Your children can also do the same and provide you with a glimpse into their daily routine.

Create a backup support team

Ask family and/or friends to help out when needed.

Use the time spent travelling to and from school to listen to your children

Try to carve out time in your schedule to take the kids to school and/or pick them up in the afternoon at least a day or two each week. Use this time together to really listen to your children.
