Remove distractions

Driving the kids to school or picking them up in the afternoon can be a great time to talk together but having schoolbags, etc in the car can mean that your children are easily distracted by phones, computers and the like. So when the children get in the car, make it a rule that all schoolbags, phones and other “distractors” must go in the car’s boot for the journey’s duration.

  • It may take a few days to enforce this habit and for the children to get used to it but persevere and they will soon start talking!
  • Make sure you are not similarly distracted – turn the radio and your phone off (not just on silent).

Tips:

Keep your promises

Don't make promises you can't keep. Only say you will be there if you really can be.
