Teach values to your children

Be specific about values like trust, honesty, integrity, respect, racism, generosity to those who are poor and kindness to those in need.

  • Teach them to accept people who are different, eg. kids who are disabled, obese or ‘uncool’
  • Develop their conscience about issues like bullying and abusers – don’t leave a vacuum
  • Apologise to your kids when you are wrong
  • Give ‘margarine apologies’, not butter – ie, don’t say “I am sorry, but, er, if only you hadn’t…”

Tips:

Encourage a healthy lifestyle

Spend active time with your kids – go for a swim, kick a footy at the park, or go for a bike ride. Encourage them to get outdoors and play.
