Teens and respect

Here are a few tools you might use to promote mutual respect and ensure your teenager knows they are respected.

  • Ask for your child’s opinion when making family decisions and take what they have to say seriously.
  • Make eye contact and listen to your child when they speak and voice their thoughts – this shows that you value what they have to say.
  • Support your child to try out their ideas, even when you think their idea won’t work – this creates a sense of teamwork in your family. All ideas are respected!
