Try a continuous story

Children love stories, especially when they are about themselves. Ever heard of a continuous story? Dad makes up a story about his child and adds an episode every time it gets shared. Away from home? No problem. You can write it down and share by email or call on the phone.

If you haven’t tried it, give it a go. New episodes can be added daily or weekly. From others’ experience, this can continue through to mid-teens!!

Encourage your children to share their worries

Listen to your children’s fears and anxieties about the times you are away and reassure them of your love and commitment to them.

Take responsibility

Encourage and expect your kids to take responsibility for their actions and be a role model through your own behaviour.
