Cooking with Cameron: How to make tuna steaks

Tuna! As a child I was scared by tinned Tuna! The smell is awful! Bit when a friend dropped of some fresh caught tuna I had a warm cup of concrete and hardened up and decided to have a go at fresh Tuna. Wow what a meal this is, I am sold on fresh tuna. The flesh is flaky but still really firm. So if you are in the same boat of fear, then ignore the tinned tuna and have a crack at fresh Tuna. When it comes to the seasoning you can mix up your own or get some Italian herb mix.

Prep time: 20 minutes

Cook Time: 20 minutes

Serves: 4

  • 4 Tuna Steaks (about 15ml thick)
  • Olive oil
  • Juice of ½ lemon
  • ½ tsp  oregano
  • ½ tsp thyme
  • ¼ tsp basil
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Roasting potatoes, cut into small pieces
  • Grated Parmesan cheese
  • Lemon slices

  1. Preheat oven to 250c
  2. Add 4tbs olive oil, lemon juice, garlic into a ziplock bag and add in tuna steaks. Seal the bag and place in fridge for 20minutes.
  3. In a large bowl combine potatoes with oil and mixed herbs to taste. Arrange potatoes on a flat baking tray that is lined. Cook for 15-20min (depending on the size of the potato pieces).
  4. After 20min place tuna steaks on a lined tray, sprinkle with mixed herbs and lay a slice of lemon on top. Cook for 6min and turn steaks and cook for another 6min.
  5. Pull potatoes out as you start cooking Tuna steaks and sprinkle Parmesan cheese over them and return to oven and cook till Tuna is ready.

Serve up and enjoy
