Documentary maker Josh Lee shares his personal journey making The Fathering Project

‘The Fathering Project’ premieres on Sunday 12 July at 6:30pm on ABC Compass

The Fathering Project is a documentary written, directed and edited by Josh Lee and produced by Alice Wolfe. It communicates a personal story about what it means to be a father today and follows a group of men as they strive to overcome their generational cycle of negative parenting.

It also profiles Josh’s own personal journey to find the father he has never met.

The documentary set in Armadale WA, explores the reality of men who have been raised in fractured families, often navigating domestic violence, poverty, addiction and mental illness.

It follows a group of single fathers seeking to break this cycle as they take part in Australia’s first targeted dads program for at risk families run by The Fathering Project.

A unique program, it aims to helps dads that have suffered trauma, have a lack of trust, and no confidence in their own fathering abilities develop their fathering capabilities and connection with other men.

About The Fathering Project

The Fathering Project works with schools across Australia to start and grow Dad Groups, providing an environment where fathers and father-figures feel welcome to gather, share, learn and bond with each other and with their kids.

The Fathering Project invites dads to join or start a Dads Group at their school.
