About Professor Danny Eckert

Professor Danny Eckert is a National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia Senior Research Fellow. He is an internationally renowned expert in sleep research and a passionate advocate for the importance of sleep health. He has published over 135 articles on sleep in the leading sleep and medical journals. He currently serves as the Director of the globally recognised Adelaide Institute for Sleep Health at Flinders University which consists of a team of over 50 multidisciplinary sleep researchers, all of whom are dedicated to improving health through the science of sleep. Professor Eckert leads a comprehensive basic sciences and translational research program that focuses on identification of the causes of sleep apnoea, optimisation of existing therapies, and development of new tailored therapies.

In addition to these roles, he has recently taken up the position of Deputy Director and Theme Leader of Clinical Translation at the Flinders Health and Medical Research Institute. His previous appointments include Professor of Medicine at UNSW, Principal Research Scientist at Neuroscience Research Australia, Board member and Research Chair for the Australasian Sleep Association and Assistant Professor within the Division of Sleep Medicine, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School.
